Resources on Sharing Strategies for Publishing in Journals as posted on #phdchat

The #phdchat session on Twitter from 1st June is captured below.

Do add any additional relevant content, advice, hints, experiences here. A useful resource for many publishing queries is PhD2Published, a website and blog maintained by @sarahthesheepu. Sarah is very happy to add additional resources to that site in response to questions raised here.

PhDChat 01 June 2011 - Sharing Strategies for Publishing in Journals

@NSRiazat - Welcome to this week's #phdchat - hope everyone is well and ready to discuss 'sharing strategies for publishing in journals' :)

@sarahthesheepu - #phdchat for my ideas re journals i give you the body of work i have sourced for @PhD2Published

@Janshs - @lizith @allonsdanser the #phdchat and the wiki are both brilliant - a real way to collaborate & support

@allonsdanser - @aeratcliffe Agree. But I love the discussions on #phdchat Tweetchats. Wiki is important for archiving/collecting/sharing. via @lizith

@lizith - @LBA_OX12 Thanks for doing wiki last week :) #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - I tweeted recently about signing up to journals that I find interesting thro publisher sites - to keep up to date / see style etc #phdchat

@qui_oui - How do you choose the right journal for your paper? I've had quite a few problems with this... #PhdChat

@LBA_OX12 - @lizith Thanks. I learned alot and the links were very useful #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @C_J_Cage It's a great idea to look at journals and styles. I like a few in my field but all a little different in style. #phdchat

@sarahthesheepu - #phdchat if you have any questions u want answered on journal publications tweet them to me & ill create posts on @PhD2Published 2 answer

@cgirvan - With 1 pubed, 1 in press & 1 in review I don't know much but my one big tip would be to write for target journal & review articles #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @qui_oui I'm trying to figure that out too - guess I'd go with ones I've quoted in the article I want to publish+respected first? #phdchat

@NSRiazat - "@qui_oui: How do you choose the right journal for your paper? I've had quite a few problems with this... #PhdChat" Good Q....

@sarahthesheepu - plus #phdchat anyone want to do a book review for me - its one of those how 2 write your thesis type things

@AndreaZellner - @qui_oui I asked my advisor about choosing the right journals: he was very instrumental in pointing me in the right direction #phdchat

@cgirvan - #phdchat is going to be interesting tonight - such a shame I should have left 10 mins ago!

@C_J_Cage - @sarahthesheepu might be interested - I've been getting into those type of books recently #phdchat

@qui_oui - @C_J_Cage sure--but I did that once so far without success, LOL! #PhDchat

@lizith - @sarahthesheepu not volunteering for book review, but reviewing for journals is good way of learning from others mistakes #phdchat

@nnoel - Study their policy re: copyright. Consider publishing in open access journals so that you are free to share your work with others #phdchat

@gawbul - @C_J_Cage Can you share th link please? :-) #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @AndreaZellner @qui_oui good idea about asking your supervisor - mine's given me some good advice in the past for other things #phdchat

@qui_oui - @C_J_Cage @AndreaZellner Have asked a few people for advice including supervisor. Still not getting a good idea of where to send... #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - @sarahthesheepu Would be happy 2 write a review #phdchat

@AndreaZellner - #phdchat I also have been paying attention to where the faculty & other students in my dept publish & note audience, style, etc.

@NSRiazat - Guess it's about choosing one journal only and making right choice due to publication rights and ownership of the work. #PhDchat

@C_J_Cage - @gawbul I just searched through Sage and Wiley sites for journals I like - link for Email updates - also info on article reqs there #phdchat

@gawbul - @NSRiazat @c_j_cage I tend to sign up for email notifications from journals and choose the ones with my favourite relevant articles #phdchat

@qui_oui - I have a big list of journals, but it's still tricky because my work doesn't often fit into a journal category, I've discovered #PhDchat

@C_J_Cage - @NSRiazat If you get rejected you can submit elsewhere though? I've only done conference abstracts so far #phdchat

@lizith - @AndreaZellner also look at what you are reading and where that has been published - might be interested in more in similar area #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @NSRiazat @qui_oui look at the journals objectives,do they match the message of your paper > journals target audience #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @gawbul @NSRiazat @c_j_cage good idea how do you sign up- is this to register with the journal #phdchat

@qui_oui - I looked at what I was reading and citing, what people suggested, what seemed to "fit" with each paper, objective of journals etc #PhDchat

@NSRiazat - @gawbul @c_j_cage Like the idea of going for a journal while has favourite relevant articles. #phdchat

@gawbul - @NSRiazat I had rejection sending a letter to check the research matched the scope of the journal! Not sure it's always a good idea #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @VGoodyear @gawbul @NSRiazat different way for each publishing site,but yes sign up for Email updates through journal page #phdchat

@SavvyOD - How do you choose the right journal? Go to their author's guidelines and learn of their criteria. That helps me a lot. #phdchat

@AndreaZellner - good idea! MT @lizith also look at what you are reading and where that has been published #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @gawbul Guessing the journals editors expect us to do our homework beforehand - good point. #phdchat

@CloBonneau - Have you tried http://www.academia.edu/ ? I find useful to discover new journal matching research interest. #phdchat

@OwhyOwhy - Sadly not the main consideration in insts applying for RAF funding;journal must be in dept subject @VGoodyear @qui_oui @NSRiazat #phdchat

@gawbul - @VGoodyear Yeah, the journal sites have a box to sign up for email notifications usually! #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @gawbul am focusing on writing thesis this year and exploring publishing next year. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @C_J_Cage @gawbul @NSRiazat I will give that a go-interested to see journals other than those I search for within search engines #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - At what stage of your PhD did you first submit an article for publication? #phdchat

@gawbul - @C_J_Cage Cool thanks :-) #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @NSRiazat @gawbul yes my supervisor is editor of physical education and sport pedagogy he says this is key #phdchat

@qui_oui - Boo, laptop battery running low (at a conference right now)...I have to bow out of chat tho I want to participate! #PhdChat

@Tidewater7 - #phdchat What are some journals that you have been published in over the last 5 years?

@qui_oui - Ask supervisor if they know anyone on the editorial boards of the journals. That's one thing I was told. #PhDchat

@VGoodyear - @C_J_Cage At what stage of your PhD did you first submit an article for publication? > lead author or collaborative #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - how essential/important to publish during yr PhD? #phdchat

@lizith - @sarahthesheepu @NSRiazat @qui_oui we will have the aggregate tweets from @gawbul, but need somebody to edit like last week #phdchat

@gawbul - @NSRiazat First my supervisor pointed me at some relevant literature! The subsequent literature search gave me a group to focus on! #phdchat

@AndreaZellner - Again, I have to duck out early from #phdchat, but even in a little time I learn so much. Thanks again, folks!

@gawbul - @NSRiazat But have to be careful they don't judge quality based on topic! Need to sell it right! Can go either way if not #phdchat

@lizith - @VGoodyear my one and only article was submitted just before I started #phd - but then changed focus of research #phdchat

@cambgirl - How many times did you submit a paper before it was published? #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @allonsdanser @LBA_OX12 There's the whole publish or perish thing, but also a lot of talk about building online presence too.. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @lizith well done on you before you began impressive #phdchat

@cambgirl - @NSRiazat @qui_oui At what stage in your PhD are you both at? #phdchat

@lizith - @VGoodyear It was a special edition - they are worth looking out for if in appropriate area - and tends to be quicker into print #phdchat

@gawbul - @C_J_Cage I'm 7 months in and submitting on Friday hopefully :-) #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @C_J_Cage My admin wants publish in journal. Doesn't see real value in online presence. Yet. :) #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @allonsdanser @LBA_OX12 I'd say quite important to get your work known in the field as soon as possible #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @gawbul wow that's good going. I'm almost 2 years in and still only conference abstracts! #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @lizith still good achievement though #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @Tidewater7 Not publishing my thesis yet. #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - @VGoodyear @allonsdanser @LBA_OX12 Even if yr researching a new area? Risk of poaching yr ideas? #phdchat

@gawbul - @lizith @sarahthesheepu @nsriazat @qui_oui I'll try format it, so as little editing as possible is required! #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @allonsdanser Yes I don't think it's quite recognised in academic community yet, but I got an online seminar place through it #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @LBA_OX12 I'm less afraid of poaching. There is SO much to say/do/resch in online/elearning! I think. #phdchat

@lizith - @gawbul brilliant! :) :) :) #phdchat

@cambgirl - @gawbul great, that is quite an achievement. #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @cambgirl @qui_oui One more year.#phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @LBA_OX12 @VGoodyear @allonsdanser If you publish then they should cite you though... I don't think it's worth worrying too much #phdchat

@drjavafox - I decided to take advantage of getting published in a conference proceedings. my 1st publication but not intimidating. #phdchat

@gawbul - @C_J_Cage Thanks! My supervisor very keen on publishing as I go and getting as many talks as possible under my belt too #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @gawbul Yes agree - that's a good point re: quality based on topic. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @LBA_OX12 @allonsdanser yes be careful with that but could it be new insights and further collaborative work #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @VGoodyear Even before defending? I'm still doing research coursework for next 3 terms. #phdchat

@cambgirl - How much easier is it to publish in conference proceedings instead of journals? When do you choose conference over journal? #phdchat

@gawbul - @NSRiazat Yes! Our topic seemed to fit, but seemed the editor wasn't keen! It did have almost a 7 impact factor though :-S #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @C_J_Cage You mean teaching in online seminar? Cool! #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @allonsdanser some people publish work from part of their pilot studies I believe #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @gawbul good advice - my supervisor put me off from doing much - maybe worried about my focus? I'm submitting anyway tho! #phdchat

@rammarins - #PhDchat In Mexico is a requirement, at most of top Universities, to publish in an acknowledged journal in order to graduate.

@lizith - #phdchat some universities have postgrad journals - they can be worth looking at - and submission process mirrors other journals generally

@C_J_Cage - @allonsdanser It's called Authors Meet Critics - discussing papers with Authors for journal I'd like to publish in in future :) #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @drjavafox I did this also. It was easier to do I think. And counts toward my tenure. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @rammarins wow that's interesting - why is that? #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @NSRiazat @cambgirl I think less pressure for conference. Also presenting good for networking, and you submit abstract, then paper #phdchat

@drjavafox - .@allonsdanser 1 of my academic 'idols' did this too, so I figured it was a respectable way to get my 1st publication! #phdchat

@lizith - @VGoodyear @allonsdanser my supervisor is advising writing articles that can be thesis chapters with some sub-editing and vv #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - @sarahthesheepu Have sent DM with email address.... #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @drjavafox Oooh! love your research area. I'll be cking it out further! #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @lizith @VGoodyear @allonsdanser Sounds like a V good idea - I know it's helped me get my ideas together #phdchat

@cambgirl - How many papers in total do you expect to have published by the end of your PhD? #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @C_J_Cage Sounds intriguing. I hope you'll post more on the wiki about it. #phdchat

@merry30 - I submitted an article based on MSc during first year, but (9 mths on) still nothing. It was a special ed, but they said... (contd) #phdchat

@gawbul - @lizith Same here! Just gonna be a case of editing it all together! This paper will be the main part of my first year report #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @cambgirl I guess the number of papers will most likely depend on the amount of time I can manage to devote to it! #phdchat

@sarahthesheepu - #phdchat apologies 4 not joining in so much 2nite but trying to rescue bid we have a range of articles on www.phd2published.com on journals

@allonsdanser - @lizith Using thesis chaps to publish sounds logical to me. Or maybe do a nice lit rev of a topic to be published. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - I know there is a graduate journal of sport exercise and physical education research for student led research #phdchat

@CloBonneau - @cambgirl Some conferences turn proceedings into a journal special issue, you get the opportunity to rework paper after the conf #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @cambgirl I would like 2 or 3 #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @allonsdanser Thanks. I found out about it through my department - not sure how you find out about these things otherwise #phdchat

@merry30 - ... that since I'm now doing PhD I was no longer eligible for the edn. It's gone into "normal" reviewing but all dead air. :-( #phdchat

@gawbul - @cambgirl Maybe 5 or 6? Planning my next one already! #phdchat

@cambgirl - @C_J_Cage But roughly what do you estimate? I've planned to publish three - am I being too ambitious? #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @sarahthesheepu sorry to hear that - best of luck #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @merry30: My dean told us that it takes a while before we might hear back from Journal. Sometimes more than a year. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @lizith @allonsdanser mine too, I'm writing a book chapter, some of the info can b lifted from one to the other with minor tweaking #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @cambgirl I think it depends on your PhD, how you work, what your supervisor expects, and what you expect of yourself? #phdchat

@cambgirl - How do you cope with the waiting time to hear back from journals? #phdchat

@cambgirl - @C_J_Cage Thanks! I suspect it depends on the topic too and whether there is enough material of interest ...? #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @cambgirl Yes. Also, I think conference articles are often used as a basis for a journal article - that's what I hope to do #phdchat

@rammarins - . @SavvyOD Also no definition for acknowledged so universities committees make it = to Indexed Journals, JCRs Thompson-Reuters #PhDchat

@cambgirl - Is it harder or easier to publish when you are part of a research group? Anyone had any experience? #phdchat

@drjavafox - My personal goal is to have a paper published in a major journal in my field by the time I sit my viva #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @cambgirl I would imagine that we're all so busy working on the phd that once we submit, we forget, until something reminds us. #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @cambgirl Also, I am still collecting a bit more data, so (though I have some initial findings) not quite ready yet #phdchat

@lizith - @cambgirl @C_J_Cage Also different disciplines have different expectations #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @drjavafox Me too. I think that is something achievable. Then any more is a bonus :) #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @cambgirl I would imagine it's much easier when you are part of a research group - lots of potential collaborations #phdchat

@cambgirl - Should you publish in a higher rating journal or a journal that has low rating but is specifically for your area? #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @rammarins Wow! But I suppose, if you want to become tenured, the expectation is to be published. More publishing = more money. #phdchat

@gawbul - @cambgirl @c_j_cage I do evolutionary comparative genomics analysis, so there is always data to analayse :-) #phdchat

@CloBonneau - @lizith I agree, online post-grad journals are great way to start. An article I wrote in one of those journal gets cited a lot! #phdchat

@ASBO_Allstar - @cambgirl depends on your motivation, to be REF returnable we're encouraged to target journals with high impact factors #phdchat

@cambgirl - @gawbul That sounds very complicated :) #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @cambgirl When it boils down to it, being published = greater chances of bringing more money to Uni. So go with higher rated ones. #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @gawbul wow! Sounds very interesting! #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @gawbul Can you say that in English? LOL #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @cambgirl possibly if the findings add value or are new avenue of research #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @cambgirl Would consider a quality peer reviewed journal. Once published (I think?) you can't re-publish same work again elsewhere. #phdchat

@lizith - @SavvyOD @gawbul the option is still there to post a research in plain English blog and add to list on wiki :-) #phdchat

@cambgirl - @CloBonneau @lizith Is there a directory of online post-grad journals? Never heard of that before. #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @CloBonneau @lizith Where do you find online post-grad journals? There is still the issue of ensuring it's a good place to publish? #phdchat

@merry30 - Ditto! @drjavafox My personal goal is to have a paper pub'd in a mjr journal in my field by the time I sit my viva #phdchat

@rammarins - .@SavvyOD Waiting line for tenured positions is long, because there are no new teaching/research position at top universities #PhDchat

@VGoodyear - @CloBonneau @lizith I may have a go with an online post grad journal then #phdchat

@judobob - @C_J_Cage @cambgirl I think conf are much easier, I am pres at a conf in Aug and then adapting it into 1st pub paper hopefully #phdchat

@rammarins - And yes, more publishing=more money cc @SavvyOD #PhDchat

@SavvyOD - @rammarins Same here in the US. There's lots of talk about doing away with tenure. #phdchat

@lizith - @cambgirl @CloBonneau I don't know of directory, but several universities have them - tend to see CFPs on doc school blogs #phdchat

@judobob - @cambgirl I would def go with lower rating first #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @judobob @C_J_Cage @cambgirl I have similar plans my supervisors say write the paper before the conference and tweak after pres #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - Found it! Good article in @PhD2Published on caution in where you publish: http://t.co/tmY87wV #phdchat

@cambgirl - Am I right in understanding that you can modify same material conf articles into journal articles but not journal to journal? #phdchat

@Janshs - #phdchat @VGoodyear using writing for 2 purposes makes sense - e.g a policy doc forwork - write up the process for journal?

@NSRiazat - #phdchat - it's 8.30pm and that brings us to the end of another 'official' #phdchat. :)

@lizith - @C_J_Cage article on PG journals too http://is.gd/huAySJ #phdchat

@Tidewater7 - Thanks! #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - Anyone doing politics? Graduate Journal - Political Perspectives: http://t.co/Z3grs7Y #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @lizith @gawbul @qui_oui @sarahthesheepu @Janshs @allonsdanser @aeratcliffe @LBA_OX12 ~ thanks for contributions to #phdchat tonight. :)

@gawbul - @SavvyOD Lol! It's trying to understand evolution by focusing on large-scale comparisons of whole genome data! That clarify? #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @cambgirl I think that depends upon the publishing rights that you agree to when u publish. ? #phdchat

@judobob - @cambgirl That is what I have been advised to do #phdchat

@SavvyOD - @gawbul Yes, thank you! :-) #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @NSRiazat Thanks for hosting. This was a valuable topic for me to talk /hear about. #phdchat

@VGoodyear - @Janshs sorry may be a long day, I don't follow what you mean #phdchat

@lizith - @allonsdanser @cambgirl danger too of self-plagiarism if using same basic material #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @C_J_Cage @cgirvan @phd2published @AndreaZellner @nnoel @VGoodyear @SavvyOD @rammarins ~ thanks for contributions to #phdchat tonight. :)

@VGoodyear - @NSRiazat thanks for hosting and thanks to all for discussions #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - @lizith @allonsdanser @cambgirl I'm shocked at how many senior academics do this: salami slicing I believe it's called #phdchat

@cambgirl - Thank you to all who responded to my questions, it was hard to keep up, but much appreciated though! :) #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @OwhyOwhy @CloBonneau @Tidewater7 @cambgirl @drjavafox @merry30 @ASBO_Allstar @judobob ~ thanks for contributions to #phdchat tonight. :)

@mark_carrigan - @lizith @allonsdanser @cambgirl Inevitable consequence of audit culture which incentivises quantity over quality in publishing #phdchat

@C_J_Cage - @NSRiazat Yes, thanks for hosting - very interesting as always :) #phdchat

@raulpacheco - Had a good talk with one of my former committee members (PhD) about the dearth of academic posts everywhere. A sobering reality #PhDChat

@VGoodyear - A discussion on PEPRN @ http://bit.ly/ldoYSl : comments welcomed; what would you do differently in your teaching #phdchat

@lizith - If anybody didn't see my post for Sussex doc school blog, do take a look - it mentions #phdchat :-)

@SavvyOD - @allonsdanser Your response was priceless! LOL #phdchat

@gawbul - @NSRiazat and all, will get the log up ASAP and work on making the aggregator tool easily and widely available :-) #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @SavvyOD Haha! I already asked him after last week's #phdchat . Things that make u go "duh". :)

@Janshs - @VGoodyear and also can use policy docs you might be working on in day job #PhDChat

@lizith - I'm disappearing to watch the Apprentice - thanks for the discussion this evening #phdchat

@allonsdanser - What if #PhdChat were an asynchronous threaded discussion?

@lizith - @gawbul you're a star! #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @sarahthesheepu Might be valuable as an addition to the chat. #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - By which I mean we're going to try and involve lots of people who aren't physically present at the event. Any tips on this front? #phdchat

@rammarins - MT @mark_carrigan consequence of audit culture which incentivises quantity over quality in publishing #phdchat| also publishing ovr teaching

@gawbul - @allonsdanser I could host an IRC chat room on my server, that could be made available via a Java applet on my site or the wiki #phdchat

@gawbul - @allonsdanser I think the Twitter thing is unique though, but could have a script post all chat to Twitter automatically :-) #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @gawbul The global aspect of Twitter is what works so well. I'm interested in analysis of discourse in each style= asynch vs synch #phdchat

@cambgirl - @salfordgareth I agree, it's almost impossible to find good quality royalty free images. We could create an academic image bank? #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @gawbul @sarahthesheepu You r bothbrilliant! It's the discourse I'm interested in. I'd love to see ur methods! #phdchat

@drjavafox - .@NSRiazat thanks for another stimulating, interesting #phdchat - always flies by!

@lizith - @allonsdanser @gawbul @sarahthesheepu the sync/asynch is interesting - wonder if restrictions of Twitter are one of success factors #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @gawbul The script posting TDs to twitter automatically cud be an interesting experiment. #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @lizith I keep reading about the restrictions AND affordances of socio-technical networks. #socialinformatics #phdchat

@merry30 - @SavvyOD It's depressing, though...! #phdchat

@literarychica - @bpmoritz On an unrelated note: have you checked out #phdchat? The folks on that hashtag are super helpful re: PhD stuff.

@SavvyOD - @merry30 Yes, it can be a bit deflating. Especially if you need it for graduation or to become tenured. #phdchat

@allonsdanser - @lizith Open Univ? Don't know Athabasca. Can u give me more info? Thanks! See why #phdchat works so well? Spontaneous, dynamic.

@allonsdanser - @Janshs What pedagogical/learning theory did you use to support that? #phdchat #curious

@allonsdanser - @Janshs That's what I'm finding in the research. No distinction being made between the two. #phdchat

@eternalcanadian - @raulpacheco It's probably a good thing I left PhD program @ UBC. No jobs!!! #PhDChat

@JeffreyKeefer - @lizgloyn @savasavasava @daciatakesnote Did anybody notice that Apotheke opens at 6:30? Meet then for our #phdchat #NYC #meetup @klbz

@Janshs - @allonsdanser but I do feel that asynch v useful for ppl with multiple 'lives' #PhDChat

@Janshs - asynchronous nature of twitter is constrained by time factors I guess but related ideas such as wiki & gogle docs might overcome? #phdchat

@aeratcliffe - @allonsdanser @lizith Small world. I'm an Athabasca U alumnus. Check http://irrodl.org #phdchat

@UK_DZ_Bella - I cannt believe i missed the #phdchat again :(( ??

@allonsdanser - @Janshs True. We used both at USM when I studied MLIS there. Objectives for using each differed. Some Unis use one OR the other. #PhDChat

@allonsdanser - This was a great #phdchat . Guess I better get away from PC for a bit. Eyes r burning. Thank you Everyone!

@ai1sa - will do a catch up reading the threads of #phdchat later today

@readywriting - @bpmoritz #highered #gradschool and #phdchat for help and info on just that!

@aeratcliffe - Critical Consumption = Crap Detection, Howard Rheingold http://bit.ly/iuBSLP #phdchat

@progresscholar - I have new-found gusto in my search for a PhD program thanks to the forthright guidance of Dr. Kris Renn. #phdorbust #phdchat
