'Blogging about your research to improve your writing/recording thoughts as you progress (timeline)'

#phdchat tweet log - 20th June 2012

@NSRiazat - Welcome to #phdchat topic for tonight is 'Blogging about your research to improve your writing/recording thoughts as you progress (timeline)

@NSRiazat - @lizith ~ just caught the tail end of the converstions about blogging on #phdchat but great to hear it is a useful topic. :-)

@NSRiazat - @EmmaBurnettx @lizith ~ will be great to see you on #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @NSRiazat Hi everyone. Looking forward to tonights discussions. I am on a conference call for the next hour but will try to dip in #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @lindathestar @lizith ~ great to see you on #phdchat. :-)

@NSRiazat - @NSRiazat ~ I don't really blog as much as I should do about my research but was advised it is a good way to practise writing. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @NSRiazat me too - nearing the end of my journey and really wished I'd had the confidence to blog more :) #phdchat

@lizith - some people blog regularly, others occasionally and others not at all. Would be interesting to know more about why we blog or don't #phdchat

@lizgloyn - @NSRiazat This is something I've been trying to do (blog more about my research) - I want to do it, but getting into it is hard #phdchat

@lizith - I started blogging because my supervisor told me to! More or less on my first day as a research student! #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @NSRiazat Was faced with a dilemma yesterday: to blog or not about a major set back I've just had. I blogged today & glad I did #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith mine is a combination of time (fitting it in round other stuff especially when p/t) and lack of confidence #phdchat

@sakinasofia - I think blogging requires more time & focus to do so...& discipline #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - hi everyone! #phdchat

@starpath - Why Sitting Too Much Is Dangerous http://t.co/HXmNqjRg #phdchat Get moving, any way you like!!

@NSRiazat - @lizith @SueFolley @EmmaBurnettx ~ don't blog purely due to time. I write thesis but no spare time for additional writing at mo :( #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - @SueFolley Agree with your last comment - impostor syndrome is alive & well #phdchat

@lindathestar - I write personal reflections privately and wonder how much is safe/appropriate for public blog. Love reading others' disclosures. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith I wish my sup had encouraged me to do so - I think I would have been more likely to do so and seen the benefit :) #phdchat

@lizith - @EmmaBurnettx I think a lot of us are glad you blogged too! @nsriazat #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @EmmaBurnettx ~ it's a great way to get ideas and thoughts down and then can look at them with a fresh pair of eyes/get feedback. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @LBA_OX12 yep - and doesn't go away as you feel like a complete novice at every new stage of the process :)) #phdchat

@lizith - @SueFolley I blogged a lot early on, but now very occasionally - & when I feel I have something worth saying #phdchat

@SueFolley - @NSRiazat @lizith @EmmaBurnettx yep agreed - I think it would be beneficial but all spare time goes to progressing thesis #phdchat

@sakinasofia - I wish I blog more to capture my thoughts development during the PhD process #phdchat

@starpath - Bike Desk Powers Your Gadgets, Meetings, You [VIDEO] http://t.co/Nhqq5lZH via @mashable #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @lizith @EmmaBurnettx @SueFolley ~ having said that it would be a great way of testing out small sections of my writing on peers. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith @EmmaBurnettx @nsriazat yes agree :)) #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @NSRiazat definitely - also the support from everyone & comments/feedback is amazing. #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - I only started blogging recently but have enjoyed it and the feedback. I think I need to do more, especially when I'm away. #phdchat

@lindathestar - Had discussion about a past relationship recently that gave me insight into my PhD topic, but unsure how much to put in public #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @lizith thank you! #phdchat

@lizith - @SueFolley though I suspect mine encouraged it as she doesn't blog & was interested to see if I would :) #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith yes I think I would have had more time early on - so wish I had blogged more then! #phdchat

@lizith - @sakinasofia a lot of my blogging is tangential to my research, but more about me and the journey of being a doctoral student #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith interesting that she was encouraging you to then :) (Sort of do what I say not what I do :)) #phdchat

@lindathestar - @sakinasofia It's useful to see how others approach same ideas, so having blog instead of discussion is way to reach more widely #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @lindathestar Am also not sure how much should put in the public domain - so have only done a little - would like to do more #phdchat

@npmaven - Hi, all! Lurking from Wyoming, USA. Didn't blog during doc research but after-finding ways to share findings w/practitioners. #phdchat

@lizith - @SueFolley I didn't realise she didn't at the time - now I find it rather amusing! #phdchat

@SueFolley - I think those who haven't yet started blogging maybe start blogging about process rather then content until you gain confidence #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - In all social media I am conscious of supervisors reading material which inhibits self expression #phdchat

@lindathestar - @clmasaro MT @NSRiazat: Welcome to #phdchat topic for tonight is 'Blogging about your research to improve your writing/recording thoughts

@lizith - @DeborahALock @lindathestar I tend to ask whether what I have to say is likely to be interesting/helpful to others #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @SueFolley great advice #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith yes-having said that I advise new phd students to start blogging & don't often do so myself -so I'm a bit of a hypocrite :) #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @DeborahALock @lindathestar ~ interesting thought 'how much should I put in the public domain''..... #phdchat

@lindathestar - @Donna_Peach Hard to criticise supervisors that way, but encourages non confrontational approach/reflection #phdchat

@lizith - @DeborahALock @lindathestar I rarely blog about my research or research findings - not sure why not - hmmm #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - @SueFolley agreed that process is good to blog about! #phdchat

@NikkiLuke_Psych - #phdchat I don't blog as much as I'd like purely due to lack of time, but have found it a great way of organising ideas.

@SueFolley - @londonaesthetik and much easier - doesn't put yourself out there too much to start with - as that can be daunting :) #phdchat

@lindathestar - @lizith @DeborahALock Thoughts on method etc 'safe' I'm unsure how much data to reveal re ethical considerations #phdchat

@lizith - @Donna_Peach I guess some sup'rs follow our blogs - one of mine reads and t'other doesn't, even when asked to! #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @lizith Done a bit on research - try not to be too reflect on self in case it comes across as self-indulgence! #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - I don't see why time spent blogging and time spent on thesis are mutually exclusive. Surely the former can help develop the latter? #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @lindathestar Suspect its more about 'keeping your powder dry' for the thesis #phdchat

@sakinasofia - @lindathestar agree, but how do you ensure that the blog is reach to those in the same field as you? #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - @DeborahALock How about writing about your PhD experience? #phdchat

@lindathestar - Can I comment on interviews in a blog, as ethics consent relates to scholarly outlets eg confs, papers, thesis. Play it safe #phdchat

@SueFolley - Also blogging on the process can be really useful to others at a similar stage to you -I've learned loads from other people's blogs #phdchat

@planetchampion - @Donna_Peach Good point How do U think U lot would feel if we blogged about our students (even if U stayed anon) #notprofessional #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @lindathestar @lizith I have no criticism of supervisors but keenly aware of impact of indirect communications #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @mark_carrigan I agree with this #phdchat

@SueFolley - @mark_carrigan yes I do agree - but I suppose different types of writing style perhaps? I think it can help refine ideas though :) #phdchat

@lindathestar - @sakinasofia It's up to them to find you-twitter link, or using searchable tags on the blog, perhaps? #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @LBA_OX12 probably not a good idea today ;-) will ring later & explain #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @planetchampion Agreed and supervisors may feel the need to respond to blog when we have not shared our thoughts directly - complex #phdchat

@Rabourn - #phdchat Anyone blog prcis for individual articles? Ive thought about doing it.

@DeborahALock - @Donna_Peach I think your are right to be cautious & be aware of what you write. once it's in black & white it's permanent #phdchat

@lindathestar - @planetchampion @Donna_Peach I complained about poor academic standards generally on FB once & feedback frm students v unhappy #phdchat

@lizith - @planetchampion @donna_peach isn't blogging one of the ways we learn from each other, including about rels with sup'rs/students? #phdchat

@planetchampion - @Donna_Peach Doing that on twitter or a blog can be very dangerous! Everything has limits it's imp to know when +where they are :-) #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - I have just started to blog and I have found many other wonderful blogs which provide comfort by sharing the human view of research #phdchat

@planetchampion - @lindathestar @Donna_Peach I can understand that -it's imp to know the boundaries of what can be discussed in public #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - MT @lizith @planetchampion @donna_peach isnt blogging one way we learn from each other, including about rels with suprs/students? #phdchat

@lizith - @Rabourn I have occasionally - did a series of blogs summarising main points of gov't documents #phdchat

@planetchampion - @lizith @donna_peach Yes but you could say the same about supervisors -you have to learn how to do that too Same rules should apply #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @planetchampion I agree, as I blog and tweet in my own name and I also have professional standing I keep certain boundaries #phdchat

@lindathestar - Is a blog a way of having an informal conversation w remote peers, or a record of yr progress, or both? #phdchat @lizith

@EmmaBurnettx - @planetchampion @lindathestar @Donna_Peach @lizith I'd never blog anything I wouldn't say to sups or wouldn't want them to read #phdchat

@planetchampion - @lizith @donna_peach There are boundaries. Understand them and you will be fine #phdchat

@planetchampion - @EmmaBurnettx @lindathestar @Donna_Peach @lizith AND that won't cause you problems getting a job/promotion etc#playthelonggame #phdchat

@qui_oui - Dear students with tidy writing: you are the best. Regards, The Person Grading Your Exam. #PhDchat #HigherEd

@lindathestar - @EmmaBurnettx @planetchampion @Donna_Peach @lizith #phdchat I'm always aware that it's out there forever, v careful

@lizith - @planetchampion @donna_peach quite - but knowing rules and boundaries does not preclude blogging IMO #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @Rabourn - blogging is a good way for a early career researchers to get their work out into the public domain. #phdchat

@DeborahALock - Do people blog as the mood takes or is this something that is timetabled as part of yr research process #phdchat

@lizith - @lindathestar I think I would say both - and more besides - it's a reflective space, but in the public arena #phdchat

@lindathestar - I love the insights into others' views of the world that blogs offer, and learn a lot. #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @lizith @planetchampion Agreed, its just responsible blogging. #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Some ideas for blog content? Book reviews, conference write ups, summary of chapters/papers, thoughts on research to date...#phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - Allowing for confidentiality, how much detail would U want to talk re yr research & findings - risk of revealing 2 much? #phdchat

@lindathestar - When I blogged about sexual health promotion, got 900+ hits, used this as evidence of reach; sups impressed #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - Does anyone worry about misuse of their blogs, hi-jacking of ideas etc? #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Would like to use blogging to explore some of the concepts/ideas that I didn't have space to explore in my thesis. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @NSRiazat process - so tips to others on lit review, interviewing, focus groups, transcribing, tools and tech that have helped you, #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Would people agree that, despite content, blog should be thought provoking and encourages debate and discussion/comments? #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @Donna_Peach Could some of the comments about how much should be revealed be linked to fears of hi-jacking? #phdchat

@Acrobat13 - @lindathestar @lizith #phdchat I agree that blogging can be both a reflective space and a way of keeping a record of one's thinking

@mark_carrigan - That's an aspect of research blogging I've become sceptical about. Unless you're connected online with others working in your area #phdchat

@lizith - @LBA_OX12 @Donna_Peach I'm not worried abt hi-jacking ideas & the like. I did one blog specifically to put marker & claim idea #phdchat

@lindathestar - People more likely to read a blog entry with a catchy title, and with good writing. Great writing practice. #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @hapsci ~ that's an impressive number of hits and demonstrates reach/interest in topic as people are clearly reading it. #phdchat

@ICTwitz - Hi folks. Sorry I'm late. Trying to catch up on the topic. Multi-tasking! #phdchat

@janineutell - hey, @literarychica -- #phdchat happening now on blogging your research/blogging as a way to strengthen/share writing.

@mark_carrigan - then I think there's a limit to how intellectually useful that kind of dialogue in the comments box is ever going to be #phdchat

@SueFolley - @NSRiazat if possible but not essential. Blogging could just help sort ideas out and could provide advice to others? #phdchat

@ICTwitz - Blogging? I have one for my EdD, but it is a private space, for now. #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - Though I think if you're keen to pursue it, signing up to research blogging is a good way of trying for it http://t.co/0Vk6Z4SU #phdchat

@OTEllenN - @LBA_OX12 That's my worry about blogging my thesis. And having the content stolen! #phdchat

@lindathestar - @lizith @LBA_OX12 @Donna_Peach If you have proof on blog of idea & date may be way to prove claim? #phdchat

@lizith - @DeborahALock @donna_peach a blog is published work and can be used as date stamp if ideas are nicked #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @NSRiazat Yes, you only have to read the #Neverseconds blog to see how debate, discussion & engagement can be stimulated #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Blog readership: build and maintain and audience. #phdchat http://t.co/CXqOC7g0

@lindathestar - @mark_carrigan But it is also an insight into how others see your ideas - as long as they are not hater trolls #phdchat

@lizith - @NSRiazat I think it depends on purpose of blog - are you recording your thoughts or deliberately seeking audience #phdchat

@DeborahALock - @lizith Tnx for mentioning this, I had not thought about this aspect of the blog #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @lizith I agree - I think your ideas are more clearly your own if you stamp them with a blog post, esp if you CC/copyright #phdchat

@hapsci - I enjoy blogging as it gives me a break, keeps up a connection with the outside world and good writing practice #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Guess content/language/privacy settings etc are all underpinned by who the audience of your blog is - public or academics? #phdchat

@ICTwitz - Always got told that blogging should be for a reflective purpose. I've always been mindful not to relate to ME too much. #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - @lindathestar yep & can help your communication skills. i just think it's more like public engagement than proper research chat #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @NSRiazat I think it can engage other people, but usually they have so much else to read that they don't comment. #phdchat

@lizith - @OTEllenN @lba_ox12 but once you have blogged, you have laid claim to the idea #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @mark_carrigan Agreed - helps gets thoughts in order before writing, e.g. a literature review #phdchat

@lindathestar - @mark_carrigan Public engagement inc social net helps me feel less in the phd bubble and more in touch with the world #phdchat

@hapsci - do people put their blog on their cv? #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @lizith That's good to know #phdchat

@ICTwitz - I also think that blogging is a great way of raising your profile to people who are interested. More 'open book'! #phdchat

@lizith - @naomi_jacobs I really do need to get properly into CC :) #phdchat

@JaneDavis13 - @NSRiazat I often blog just for me ... Not for an audience #phdchat

@planetchampion - @hapsci You should ONLY do that if you think it will help you get the job you've applied for Think content/discipline/style etc #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @ICTwitz This is really why I started a blog, if we are researching what we think is important we want others to know about it #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @hapsci Yes. I have a blog which I keep VERY professional, without quirky little outbursts! #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - @hapsci @lindathestar agree but there are objective factors which don't go away e.g. number of specialists to non-specialists #phdchat

@AnneOsterrieder - Oh yes! @hapsci: do people put their blog on their cv? #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @LBA_OX12 Written into my ethics review - I won't discuss individuals or link data to them. Same as any writing really. #phdchat

@lindathestar - @hapsci Yes, my research blog is. Other, more general one, not as yet; holiday stuff 4 friends #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @lizith I think it's good. It encourages what we do in academia anyway - citing each others' ideas while making good use of them! #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @CatClarkson @qui_oui obviously not one of my exam papers :( #phdchat

@Rabourn - @naomi_jacobs Good point. Blogging doesnt put your ideas in the public domain. In the US, you own the copyright by default.(UK?) #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @Donna_Peach @ICTwitz Yes - good dissemination and the whole idea of 'useful research' is relevant to my work/field #phdchat

@lindathestar - If you want to see the popular sexual health promotion blog it is here http://t.co/rUH5ALHn BTY #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @JaneDavis13 ~ I should blog more to test out my ideas/fine tune my academic writing. Wish there were more hours in the day. :-) #phdchat

@mark_carrigan - @lindathestar helps keep things in proper perspective :) at least to some extent... #phdchat

@ICTwitz - More academics are using blogs instead of journals, therefore more accessible to more people globally. #phdchat

@lizith - A bit tangential, but I wonder if anybody keeps a private blog or other restricted access web presence? I used a restricted wiki #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @JaneDavis13 ~ reading through Chapter 1 as we talk and making amendments. :-) #phdchat

@JaneDavis13 - @NSRiazat sometimes the flow isn't there. Started a post today but it wasn't working ... waiting for a better day :-) #phdchat

@lindathestar - @mark_carrigan indeed #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - Clearly the consensus is 'its good to blog' #phdchat

@evalantsoght - reading at the side along with tonight's #phdchat, while trying to work on chapter 7 as well as talking on the phone

@lizith - @Rabourn @naomi_jacobs quite if anybody uses our ideas, we can point to the blog as our prior use of the ideas #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @lizith Not private, but I do have a 'less public' one for developing ideas & general academic chat. I don't give out the url much. #phdchat

@ICTwitz - BTW folks, I submitted a paper for my EdD today. Not my final one, but a significant step :-D #phdchat

@LBA_OX12 - I keep a PhD log on laptop where I can rant on & explore ideas #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - now if only we all had time! RT @Donna_Peach: Clearly the consensus is its good to blog #phdchat

@lindathestar - @lizith No, because I don't trust anything to be totally private online! Paranoid? Probably lol #phdchat

@NSRiazat - @JaneDavis13 ~ know what you mean. Sometimes the writing flows and other times I really have to work hard at it. #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @lizith @Rabourn That's what I decided - better than having no (dated) evidence. #phdchat

@JaneDavis13 - @LBA_OX12 I keep a journal (spasmodically) but its private #phdchat

@daciatakesnote - @NSRiazat Absolutely! beauty of blogging the broad audience, diversity of points of view-creates a collaborative environment #PhDchat

@lizith - @naomi_jacobs that sounds similar to the wiki I used - it was a development space, but I wanted some feedback from specific people #phdchat

@SueFolley - @ICTwitz nice one! Well done :)) #phdchat

@lizith - @ICTwitz great stuff!!! #phdchat

@blalockmoore - Just wrote the first sentence of my dissertation. Yes, it will change, but it is a start. #phdchat #academics

@Donna_Peach - @londonaesthetik lol, from a blog I read the other day what I need is a tomato and use of time will be improved #phdchat

@ICTwitz - I hear the journal publishers take academics for granted (freely working) so there appears to be a blog fight back. #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Looks like a useful reference for 'blogging and copyright'. #phdchat http://t.co/zsQWuGUZ

@Donna_Peach - @londonaesthetik or perhaps I should spend less time reading other people's blogs :) #phdchat

@SueFolley - @blalockmoore yay! :)) #phdchat #academics

@NSRiazat - @ICTwitz ~ fantastic - keep up the good work on the EdD. :-) #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @ICTwitz I do like a bit of rebellion #phdchat

@evalantsoght - @NSRiazat @JaneDavis13 Same here, the PhD makes me feel like I have to give up a lot #phdchat

@lizith - @Donna_Peach @londonaesthetik LOL! if only it were so simple :) #phdchat

@lindathestar - @blalockmoore Well done! Journey of 1,000 miles, first step etc #phdchat

@Jencouver - I agree with others that blogs are useful writing practice. I started a blog on the comps studying process to keep sane & writing. #phdchat

@SueFolley - @lizith I also have a private blog but that gets as neglected as my public one! ;)) #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @NSRiazat @lizith @SueFolley Thank you. Huge step. Pleased with it. Just hope tutors are!!! #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @ICTwitz Sounds about right. On related note, is anyone else worried about journals not accepting pieces that began as blog posts? #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @CatClarkson @Donna_Peach The peer review comes within the comments/discussion on the blog #phdchat

@lindathestar - @lizith @Donna_Peach @londonaesthetik I find the #pomodoro a useful focus tool #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - in the spirit of getting back into writing due to emergency week off, I think I will blog this afternoon... maybe. #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @naomi_jacobs I think times are changing, and fewer people will be stuck with the journal traditional way of writing in future #phdchat

@londonaesthetik - love it when i ACTUALLY use it. RT @lindathestar: @lizith @Donna_Peach @londonaesthetik I find the #pomodoro a useful focus tool #phdchat

@andycoverdale - Use blog to continue exploring peripheral areas of your research discarded in the 'focusing in' process of your PhD #phdchat

@IrishResearch - Tune into #phdchat for interesting discussions on phd research.

@lizith - @naomi_jacobs not thought of that one - is there evidence of journals doing that? #phdchat

@hapsci - @article82 join in with the #phdchat , talking about blogging

@londonaesthetik - ooooh. smart MT @andycoverdale: Use blog to continue exploring peripheral areas of your research discarded in focusing process #phdchat

@lindathestar - I'm having fun reading & writing tweets on *pad & reading mentions etc on phone: busy technology time on #phdchat

@planetchampion - @ICTwitz @naomi_jacobs That depends. No promotion for writing blogs, you need journal papers in the UK The REF will have to change #phdchat

@ICTwitz - I think that mobile apps help the blogging process. You don't have to be stuck at desk/computer #phdchat

@andycoverdale - Provides further exploration of field, context, location, and potentially contributes to developing formal publishing opportunities #phdchat

@ICTwitz - I am often struck at when my best thought/ideas come to me. So blogging whilst mobile is a god-send. @Evernote is good for this #phdchat

@evalantsoght - @ICTwitz #phdchat I like reading blogs on my mobile, but for writing i still prefer laptop/desktop

@naomi_jacobs - @lizith Not that I'm aware of. Just a vague worry. But I could always take down posts that were too similar before submitting. #phdchat

@Chemjobber - Not me! (Was tempted once.) RT @hapsci: do people put their blog on their cv? #phdchat

@lindathestar - @ICTwitz Definitely. Don't like twitter on the computer, maybe I don't have right program for it #phdchat

@evalantsoght - @ICTwitz @Evernote #phdchat Ooh, I see, from that perspective! I keep a list of ideas in my drafts on my blog

@EmmaBurnettx - @planetchampion @ICTwitz @naomi_jacobs also with the aim of 3 & 4* #REF #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @planetchampion @ICTwitz I doubt that REF will ever take account blogging, but at least it can be additional evidence. #phdchat

@lindathestar - @ICTwitz Oops, misread your first tweet. Mobile app for blogging is useful too. #phdchat

@NSRiazat - Link to '50 best blogs written by PhD students' (some good and others for fun) #phdchat http://t.co/OrwymwQW

@ICTwitz - @CatClarkson I agree, to a point. Lots of good stuff in journals. Just not accessible to those who could do with it #phdchat

@Donna_Peach - @lindathestar at our last chat I was introduced to tweetchat for these discussions much quicker to see posts #phdchat

@naomi_jacobs - @NSRiazat I have a separate research journal (that I don't use very well!), but blog could be good for that too, yep. #phdchat

@evalantsoght - @Chemjobber @hapsci #phdchat I do have it on my LinkedIn profile

@sallyosborn - Stepdaughter worried about last year of uni, particularly dissertation - is there an undergrad equivalent of #phdchat?

@Donna_Peach - Do you need a 'smartphone' for mobile blogging? #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @naomi_jacobs I just think the publishing houses need to loosen their reigns on what is accessible. #phdchat

@lindathestar - @naomi_jacobs @lizith I've written same ideas in diff format for diff publications. Scholarly would be not blog style, surely? #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @Donna_Peach iPad / smartphone....or pen/paper, and add later when at your computer :-D #phdchat

@EmmaBurnettx - @sallyosborn not sure but absolutely no reason why she can't join in here :) #phdchat

@ThatNeilMartin - @naomi_jacobs @ICTwitz Would not put ANY original data on blogs: jnls usually demand exclusivity. Use to comment/reflect instead #phdchat

@respros - @NSRiazat #phdchat Yes. See here: Steve Chambers' PhD (London Community Governance) - http://t.co/wO7F64WL

@naomi_jacobs - Home life calls, but thanks as always for an interesting #phdchat !

@NikkiLuke_Psych - #phdchat Female scientists - a colleague wants to know about your experiences, especially if you've felt held back: http://t.co/am5zG9TS

@naomi_jacobs - @ThatNeilMartin @ICTwitz Interesting point. #phdchat

@lizith - @naomi_jacobs @planetchampion @ictwitz I find it interesting how some pretty senior folk like @gconole & @mweller use blogs, etc #phdchat

@lindathestar - @Donna_Peach I'll check it out, thanks. #phdchat

@dehester - @andycoverdale absolutely agree - phd can become dreadfully repetitive blogs keep u open to thought & people alike #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @lizith @naomi_jacobs @planetchampion @ictwitz @gconole @mweller Indeed. Makes life easier / more accessible to work #phdchat

@lizith - @naomi_jacobs been good to see you #phdchat

@daciatakesnote - Would love to blog research findings, but I'm so entrenched not sure where to start w/o confusing/alienating readers. Ideas? #phdchat

@evalantsoght - @daciatakesnote how about explaining your phd topic in plain english to start with #phdchat

@ICTwitz - @ThatNeilMartin They demand a lot, but don't pay...receiving bucket loads for the privilege. #phdchat Blogging is powerful, used correctly.

@planetchampion - @sallyosborn Tell her to go and see her Tutor ON NO ACCOUNT should she take advice from other undergrads #phdchat

@lizith - @evalantsoght @daciatakesnote there are links to blogposts 'research in plain english' on #phdchat wiki http://t.co/6XoUNRlo more welcome
